DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Through the end of August, total tonnage through the Port of Duluth-Superior was down 31 percent from 2019 primarily due to steep declines in coal and iron ore shipments.
Highlights for the shipping season so far includes outbound grain and inbound wind energy cargoes.
Nine ships loaded with various wind energy components have visited the Clure Public Marine Terminal in what could be a record year for renewable energy cargo.
According to the Chamber of Marine Commerce, shipping through the St. Lawrence Seaway is down 8 percent from a year ago.
With good harvests expected in the midwest and Canada, industry experts expect a big push of grain exports through the remainder of the season.
