PARIS (Reuters) – If Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle is going to remember anything from his Paris trip, it is not the iconic landmarks, but the adrenaline rush he experienced with the police escort to the Accor Arena for an NBA game against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday.
“I’d like to thank the Paris police department. If these games are half as exciting as our police escorts to the arena, and back to the hotel it is going to be an amazing three days,” Carlisle told reporters.
“We’re weaving in and out of stuff, all of sudden we go down the other side of the street, it’s the most phenomenal experience I’ve ever had.
“With everything about Paris, you got the Champs Elysees, the Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame, the ride on the bus has been the most exhilarating thing so far.”
The Pacers lost 140-110 to Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs, but Carlisle will go back to the U.S. with positive memories.
“These Volvo buses, I mean, these things are like out of one of those video games, Call of Duty or something like that,” Carlisle said. “These things are unbelievable the way they handle. And the drivers, they’re just acting like it’s just another walk in the park.”
The Spurs and the Pacers will play the second of their two NBA games in Paris on Saturday.
