DULUTH, MN (CBS-3) – Mayor Emily Larson announced a plan Tuesday that will change the way the City of Duluth approaches the tourism industry.
Starting in 2022, Bellmont Partners will be the primary entity for promoting Duluth’s tourism industry.
This means the City will be moving on from its partnership with Visit Duluth, a company that it has been partnering with for nearly 85 years.
Mayor Larson has asked Visit Duluth to continue providing event coordination for the City, adding that their event planning and sales work has been a major benefit to the City.
The application request for a new marketing partner was issued in May, and it saw 28 total applications.
Bellmont Partners, a Minnesota-based PR, and marketing agency, was chosen.
The new contracts, if approved by the City Council, would total around $2.2 million.
Larson also announced the introduction of a Tourism, Arts, and Culture position which will be paid for with money from the Tourism Tax.
The city has now opened applications for tourism tax allocations until September 8th.
