DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Over the last six months, the DECC in Duluth has seen a steep decline in events due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
That has resulted in a large amount of unused food that is nearing expiration.
Interim Executive Director, Roger Reinert, says since they won’t be resuming full operations anytime soon, it’s an opportunity to use the food to help out others.
About 840 pounds of food from the DECC freezers and pantry was donated to the Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank.
That equates to about 672 meals for those in need.
The food bank’s Katie Bull says the DECC has been a long-time partner and provides an average of 15 thousand meals per year through their donations.
