SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – Once again this year, several goats will be helping to get rid of the invasive buckthorn plant in Superior’s Billings Park.
Buckthorn disrupts local ecosystems by crowding out native plants, degrading soil and wildlife habitat.
Since goats like to eat buckthorn, they are a sustainable, chemical free solution to get rid of the invasive plants.
The goats are fenced into a specific area and are monitored and have access to fresh water.
Visitors to the park are asked not to enter the fenced area and don’t feed, touch or interact with the goats.
The goats are provided by Drifty Acres regenerative grazing.
