1304 SAWANGKAEW AND TIEN REACH SECOND ROUND
Poland’s Maja Chwalinska slipped and suffered an injury before ending her Wimbledon debut with a 2-6 7-5 6-2 loss against Mananchaya Sawangkaew
In the men’s draw, 20-year-old American 16th seed Learner Tien secured a 6-1 6-4 6-7(4) 6-3 victory over Czech Dalibor Svrcina.
1215 MAIDEN WIMBLEDON WINS FOR JODAR AND JOVIC
Nineteen-year-old Spaniard Rafa Jodar reached the second round on his Wimbledon debut with a 6-3 6-3 7-5 win over British wildcard Felix Gill.
Denis Shapovalov, a 2021 semi-finalist, retired after crashing into the corner fence while facing set point in the second set, handing Pablo Carreno Busta his first Wimbledon victory at the age of 34 after an 0-7 record.
In the women’s draw, American 16th seed Iva Jovic secured her maiden Wimbledon win, easing past Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian 7-6(1) 6-0.
1130 PEGULA AND BENCIC ADVANCE
Swiss 11th seed Belinda Bencic, who reached the Wimbledon semi-finals last year, cruised past her 17-year-old opponent from Britain, Mika Stojsavljevic, with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win in just over an hour.
Fourth seed Jessica Pegula was pushed harder than expected to overcome world number 92 Darja Vidmanova 7-5, 6-3 after a brief physical contest.
On the men’s front, Marton Fucsovics advanced after his French opponent Luca van Assche retired when the Hungarian was leading 6-3, 4-0.
