DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A portion of the Lakewalk in Duluth is closed from Tuesday until the end of October for the continuation of a Coastal Improvement project on the popular walkway.
The Lakewalk is closed between Leif Erikson Park and Water Street. A detour is posted directing pedestrian traffic around the construction work.
After experiencing significant damage from past storm events, the City of Duluth has been working to mitigate any future damage.
This portion of the project will retreat the trail from the shoreline where possible, improve and consolidate water access and improve user experiences with new wayfinding and interpretive signage.
The work will wrap up at the end of October but will resume in spring of next year and be substantially complete by the fall of 2027.
The project is supported by federal and state funding, city and state bonding, tourism taxes and a grant from the Minnesota Historical Society.
